DPREP-2020-073 School Closure Update

Subject: School Closure Update
Date: April 7, 2020
Reference: DPREP-2020-073

Dear Parents,

First, I would like to thank everyone in our school community, from our parents who are doing
your best to take care of your children at home, our coaches who are doing their best with virtual
teaching, and to our admin staff who are still coming to work every day to maintain the school and
ensure that certain school operations are effective and ongoing.

This COVID-19 pandemic has challenged our view of learning and of life on every level. This
pandemic has abruptly forced us to see how important adaptability and resilience are in our
modern world. Change and uncertainty management will certainly be added to our school’s

Although the Ministry of Education (MOE) did not make any recent announcements regarding
school closure, it will probably likely to expect closure until April 30, 2020, as the government had
announced for Thailand to be in a state of emergency at least until then. We will update you again
as soon as we receive a directive from the MOE.

Our student’s and community’s well-being and best interests are always our top priority at our
school. Because this global pandemic is such an unexpected and complicated situation for all of us,
we have taken the past two weeks to plan out different scenarios that could take place after April
30, 2020.

The Ministry of Education allows schools to substitute regular learning days with virtual
learning according to each school’s discretion and organization of virtual learning. Our leadership
team and coaches have been fully committed and dedicated to implementing high-quality virtual
learning. Your comments and input from the Parent Virtual Learning survey have been shared with
our staff and taken into consideration for adjustments to virtual learning.

However, to further ensure the well-being of our students and families continue to be our first
priority, we have considered different scenarios that may take place in the near future:

In the case that our school can be opened before the end of the school year, we are considering
organizing academic review groups for after school for K1-G4 if we find that it is necessary. We
will also adjust the school day to start earlier for Nursery to start at 7:45 a.m.

If our school cannot be opened until the end of our school year (June 9, 2020), we are planning for
free review sessions when school is able to be resumed for all our students. As we are aware of
the challenges virtual learning presents at the Nursery level, we are planning for a free 3 week
Nursery extended school year program. For K1-G4, we are planning to support our students with
a free 2-week academic review program. Please be aware that our coaches and TAs who facilitate
these sessions will be based on staff availability.

Summaries & Additional Key Considerations:

  • Academic review sessions after school to be considered should school reopen before the
end of the school year. A 3-week extended school year program for Nursery and 2-week academic review sessions
for K1-G4 to be offered if school closure takes place until the end of the school year.
  • All after school classes missed during all school closure will be refunded as credit for use in
any of our school tuition fees or programs. All after school classes will be canceled until
the end of this school year if we reopen during this school year.
  • Our school’s “Food and Utilities” fee is composed of 70% for food and 30% for utilities. All
expenses paid for your child’s food will be refunded as credit for every day of school
  • For families who use our school bus service, all school bus expenses paid will be refunded
    as credit.
  • All credit may be used in any of our school’s programs and offerings (tuition fee, after
    school, World Star Academy, etc.)
  • We will be carefully considering any tuition fee increases in the next two years.
  • The Nursery school day schedule will be extended by starting earlier at 7:45 a.m. when we
are able to return to school and into the next school year.
  • Additionally, afternoon snacks will be provided for all primary students in the next school
year. This is a decision that had been made prior to the COVID-19 situation but we had not
had the chance to inform our families yet.
  • We are offering a 30% discount for any families who are interested in enrolling in any part
of our regular summer camp (June 17 – July 15) should the program be able to take place.
This year the theme is Sustainability and Life Skills.

We hope all families are staying safe and healthy or at least as best as can be during this time of
global crisis. All of us are dealing with a very high level of stress and uncertainty never seen before
in modern history. But if we stick together as a community, we can all get through this with the
least amount of suffering.

We sincerely thank you for your patience, understanding, and support in this global pandemic.

Sincerely yours,
Patcharalak Didyasarin Tavedikul
Head of School
