A Message from our D-PREP Director of Teaching, Learning & Curriculum

Dear D-PREP Community,

In my work as an educator, I have observed that one of the most powerful experiences a young person has as a learner is when they create something new, driven by their own vision and passion, that addresses a real world, authentic need and makes the world a better place. When I discovered the Didyasarin International Preparatory School, I realized I was witnessing the creation of something that followed this exact pattern that I had used as a template for building learning experiences with students, only now on the scale of an entire school community.

In D-PREP, we have a school that understands the highest achievement of education is to support the cultivation of our humanity to reach its true unique potential. I am thrilled and humbled to have been invited to contribute to realizing this vision as Director of Teaching, Learning and Curriculum.

Throughout my career I have found it insightful that if each of us examines our own most powerful learning experiences, we find some of the most critical elements of building high-quality rigorous learning experiences for students. Give students real challenges. Ask them to do work of consequence. Empower them to be leaders of their own learning. Expose them to exemplars and experts. Call on them to develop knowledge and skills in ways analogous to how they will be used in real world outside of the school. Balance inward self-discovery with outward relationship building with their peers, family, adults, their local context, and ultimately the global community.

Over the years I have worked as a classroom teacher, Director of Curriculum, Head of School and most recently as Head of Expeditionary Learning for a school in Delhi NCR, India, where I supported the school in implementing experiential learning and project-based pedagogy through the IB and Cambridge curricula.

My mother moved to Vietnam when she was 12 years old in the 1950s, when my grandfather took a job overseas in public health. I grew up on stories of my extended family’s life throughout Southeast Asia, and it has always been a dream of mine to experience the same with my own family. This move to Thailand represents a fulfillment of this dream.

I look forward to working with all the students, families, and staff at D-PREP in collaboration to realize the vision of the school.

Sincerely,

Christopher Koerber
