Dear Parents and Community Members:
The 2021 New Year did not start as we expected with COVID-19 causing school closures for the month of January, and our teachers and students all having to show our D-PREP Core Values of resilience, adaptability, and compassion, as we worked to adjust to online learning and supporting one another during this time.
I was impressed with how we all worked together to create the best possible virtual learning experience for all our students at different grade levels, and our students really rose to this challenge!
Thanks to the teachers for their amazing skill in learning and using effective virtual learning tools, thanks to the students for their commitment to hard work and learning even from home, and to our families for their support of their students as they moved from small group to large group to individual learning sessions throughout the day.
In this issue of Pegasus Stories, you will see some of the creative design thinking and exploration learning that occurred even during our virtual learning platform, and you will also see the work of our 3rd and 4th grade students in integrating coding with their stories of the life cycles of rocks which culminated in a celebration of their learning virtually as well.
Finally, you will see highlights of our students’ amazing artwork linked with their Units of Inquiry in the second quarter and the importance of us all working together to foster a love of reading in all our students, all the time!
This period of time has shown us all, even more vividly the importance of our entire D-PREP community working together in partnership to support, nurture and care for all of our students so that they are able to thrive even with the adversity of COVID-19.
Ultimately, we have been able to come back together even stronger than before when we returned to school in February. I am truly grateful to the fabulous D-PREP community and that we all work collaboratively to create what is best for our students at all times, as that is how we help all of them to achieve excellence and reach their full potential.
Best,
Amy K. Marx
