D-PREP Parent Coffee Hours with the Leadership Team
This was our first Parent Coffee Hours with the leadership team. The parents had an opportunity to meet more informally with our school leaders (Ms. Lady, our School Director; Ms. Amy, our Principal; and Mr. Chris, our Director of Teaching, Learning & Curriculum) and to talk about what is going well for their child and also your hopes and dreams for the future.
The Nursery & Kindergarten session discussed beginning Literacy and Read Alouds. After they had a group activity using open-ended materials to create something that represented their names or families.
The Primary session discussed Literacy Strategies and Guided Reading. They also had an opportunity for a provocation that used open-ended materials. They built the tallest towers. Halfway through the activity, they were given tape as an added material to use. After, the presentation continued with the explanation of systems and variables.
The towers being the systems and the materials being the variables. The variables can change the entire system which was proven that this concept can be transdisciplinary throughout education.
