COVID-19 Update

COVID-19 Update

Health and Safety first

At Didyasarin International Preparatory School, we are greatly concerned about the impact the recent COVID-19 is having on people and the community. COVID-19 has caused many changes in our community and schools, and it has also affected the way we look at safety and health in an international school setting.

When COVID-19 first showed up in China, we were very vigilant in keeping our school and our community safe. We always take student health and safety seriously and we continue to strongly encourage our families to take the necessary precautions to help prevent any outspread of this virus and any other flu-like illnesses.

At the end of January, we asked if any family members had traveled to China (Wu Han or any other city) and returned to Thailand in the last two weeks prior to Chinese New Year, to inform the school immediately. Their child(ren) was required to visit the doctor in Thailand and obtain a wellness certificate, clearing him / her of any illness, before returning to school.

Additionally, if any parents or family members had traveled to China over the Chinese New Year, we asked that they also inform the school and their child(ren) were asked to remain at home for 2 weeks (which is the incubation period of the exposure to this virus) before returning to school. A clearance medical certificate was required prior to returning to school.

Stricter health requirements due to COVID-19

We have been very diligent in asking parents to pay attention to their child’s health and well-being. This is extremely important to prevent the spread of illness at school.  The guidelines we provided were that children should stay home if they experience any of the following symptoms: fever (greater than 37.5 C) and/or chills; vomiting; diarrhea; feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches; congested or croup cough; and nasal congestion.

We noted that people are the most contagious in the first 48 hours. So, even if their child(ren) wakes up at home with flu-like symptoms (cough and cold), they keep their child at home and observe him/her for a couple of hours before deciding whether or not to bring them to school. Keeping a sick child at home will help minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom and schoolwide community. A child who has a fever should remain at home until they are free of fever for a minimum of 24 hours. We also required a medical clearance certificate stating that their child(ren) is well before returning to school.

As the COVID-19 spread across Asia, we updated parents weekly of the countries that were affected by this health pandemic.  We also updated our requirements for children returning to school after traveling to these or neighboring countries.

Preventive Health measures

Throughout the month of February, we continued to update parents and use preventive health measures at school.  We thoroughly cleaned and disinfected all learning materials, classrooms, and areas of the school with disinfectants and the ozone generator machines throughout the school.

We also asked parents to stay away from “hot spots” for the Coronavirus transmissions, such as: ports, cruises, and crowded public areas as directed by the World Health Organization (WHO).

As of March, we continued to take preventive health measures at school and took this opportunity to educate the children and to make sure they are best equipped with the correct information about the COVID-19 virus and hygiene.

We discussed what the virus is with all our students and showed the older students a few videos about the virus. Additionally, our nurse, Ms. Tisha worked with each class regarding hygiene, like the proper way to wash our hands and wear our masks.

Continue to stay vigilant

Lastly, in addition to our work with the students, we wanted to make sure our parents had the most up-to-date information about the COVID-19 virus and on general health and safety precautions such as the air quality issue.  So, we contacted Bumrungrad Hospital for their doctor to come in to hold a health seminar for any parents that were interested and available to join this important seminar.

At Didyasarin International Preparatory School, we always take the school cleanliness, hand sanitizing, and hygiene practices very seriously at our school.  The health and safety of our students is our number one concern.

We will continue to update our parents and our school community regarding this global pandemic and how it will affect our school.  We hope that everyone continues to stay safe and healthy.
